Abstract

The purpose of this research is to see how the strength of the incumbent's social capital in participating in the Pilkades on Bawean Island. The incumbent's victory in the village head election on Bawean Island is an interesting study to look at, various perspectives of the pros and cons of the community as a general topic discussed regarding the incumbent especially in his performance as a leader in the first period in developing the village. Qualitative methods were used in this study to explore the power of social capital possessed by the incumbent in participating in the Pilkades. This study found that the social capital owned by the incumbent was obtained when he led in the first period through an approach to community leaders. In addition, it was found that the victory obtained by the incumbent in the Pilkades on Bawean Island was not only limited to the strength of social capital, but there is economic capital or better known as the practice of money politics. Uniquely, the practice of money politics is not carried out directly by the incumbent in the pilkades, but done by the supporters, however there is no prohibition from the incumbent on the behavior of his supporters. Finally, the incumbent participates in the pilkades as the basis for sustainable village progress, but back to the speculations of society and the facts, there is no significant in developing the village.
